The Tide Has Turned in Harris County!

Dear Fellow Democrat,

This is our time. The tide has turned in Harris County!  Not only did we elect a new President in an historic election, but together, we elected Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.  Voters were open to our Democratic message of change.

Democrats made significant gains in Harris County — from our new Sheriff, Adrian Garcia, who was the highest vote getter of anyone in Harris County  and will do a terrific job of running the Harris County Sheriff’s department to the 24 new Democratic judges who will bring balance and diversity to the previously all Republican Harris County countywide judiciary to the new Democratic state legislator, Kristi Thibaut, replacing a Republican incumbent. Democrats Enthusiastic in Texas

Posted October 26th, 2008 by daniel in Blogs, CC Blog with tags , , .

While Conventional Wisdom has written Texas off as being a deeply and permanently red state, if you ask any Texas Democrat you’ll hear a completely different story. Last Sunday night, Democrats in Harris County provided us all with a glimpse of why Texas, and Harris County in particular, is turning blue sooner than you think. Read the rest of this entry »

Paul Bettencourt: Angry. Incompetent. Caught Red Handed.

It’s become painfully obvious to everybody in Harris County that Republican leadership has given us a corrupt county government. County Judge Ed Emmett makes excuses and refuses to take responsibility, propose ethics reforms with no teeth and no chance of passing, and then lies on his resumé about being a lobbyist. County Sheriff Tommy Thomas sends racist and pornographic e-mails, spies illegally on citizens, and is under federal investigation for deaths in our jails. County Attorney Mike Stafford has had an inappropriate personal and financial relationship with one of his staffers, and District Clerk Theresa Chang is under tax forfeiture. The list goes on and on.

Is it possible, then, that Harris County’s biggest mistake has been Paul Bettencourt? Read the rest of this entry »

Republican Theresa Chang called on to explain her tax problems

Posted October 22nd, 2008 by daniel in Blogs, CC Blog with tags , .

(Houston, TX) — Yesterday, Democratic challenger Loren Jackson held a press conference to discuss the serious tax issues facing Harris County District Clerk Theresa Chang.  According to records from the Secretary of State and Comptroller’s office, the Peter & Theresa Chang Foundation, Inc. has been under tax forfeiture since 1999 after failing to submit required tax information.  Even though Chang’s organization was stripped of up its right to operate in the State of Texas, it has continued to be active, underwriting scholarships in 2007 and 2008. Early Voting Has Started. I’ve Voted. Have You?

Posted October 21st, 2008 by gerry in Blogs, CC Blog with tags , .

Polls opened for early voting in Harris County at 8:00 o’clock a.m. on Monday, October 20.

ACHIEVING AN OVERWHELMING EARLY VOTE IS CRUCIAL TO THE HARRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY STRATEGY FOR WINNING HARRIS COUNTY THIS YEAR.

Early votes can be cast at any one of the 36 early voting locations throughout Harris County. Unlike election day, when you must vote only in the precinct where you are officially registered, early votes can be cast anywhere throughout the county, regardless of the voter’s residence or the precinct on his or her voter registration certificate. County Attorney Mike Stafford on the Defensive

Posted October 15th, 2008 by daniel in Blogs, CC Blog with tags , .

With 20 days left until the election, it seems another Republican has joined the long line of corrupt Republicans in county government.

County Attorney Mike Stafford, following in the ethical footsteps of Sheriff Tommy Thomas, County Commissioner Jerry Eversole, and D.A. Chuck Rosenthal, is on the defensive over allegations of improper personal and financial relationships with a female staffer, and using county funds to give raises and reimbursements to favored personnel. What YOU are missing out on

So we’re nearing the 20 day mark.  I used to be an athlete, so metaphorically, we’re in the last leg of this relay and we need that final surge of energy to bring us across that line to victory!  This surge of course will last throughout those 20 days and many many people will be running together to finish out this marathon of an election! Ed Emmett Too Dishonest to be County Judge

Posted October 8th, 2008 by daniel in Blogs with tags , .

(Houston, TX) — During a debate with Democratic challenger David Mincberg on Friday, Republican Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said, “I’ve never been a lobbyist, I had to register as a lobbyist 10 or 12 years ago because I ran a trade association, but I’ve never lobbied.” But a look at Emmett’s personal financial statements and employment history show that Emmett’s statement was just plain dishonest.
